Rocktail Bay Lodge is located in Maputaland, KwaZulu Natal within the Greater St. Lucia Wetland Park, one of South Africa world heritage sites which spans a range of ecological zones. Rocktail Bay Lodge also lies within an area which was recognized by unesco's World Heritage Committee in 1999 to be of outstanding universal value and was thus awarded World Heritage Site status.

Ten wood and thatch "treehouse" chalets & a Family Room are raised up on stilts into the forest canopy. Rocktail Bay Lodge was a winner of the 1999 BA “Tourism for Tomorrow” Awards. These awards recognize organizations in the tourism industry which have made a positive contribution towards their local natural and cultural environment. The highlight here is the miles and miles of pristine and undeveloped coastline. In addition to simply sunning yourself on the clean golden beaches, a variety of guided activities are available.

Accommodation is in 11 tree-house chalets (including a family unit). Each en-suite room has its own private balcony and an additional outdoor shower surrounded by indigenous forest. The main lodge area has a convivial lounge and meals are enjoyed either in the separate dining room or on an open wooden deck under an inviting Natal mahogany tree. A boardwalk also winds from the Lodge through spectacular, ancient dune forest and down to the beach. There is a swimming pool and sun deck for those who want to relax around the lodge.
