Serra Cafema FeaturedHidden within the enormous Hartmann Valley, looking onto the Kunene River and surrounded by the lunar-like infinity of the Namib Desert, Serra Cafema is one of the most remote and surreal destinations in all Africa. A visit here is a journey into the latent elements of the soul, a pathway of discovery and re-discovery and a winding track of rejuvenation at every turn.Stars Address Skeleton Coast, Namibia Price From $ 625.00 Location Serra Cafema Camp is located in the extreme north-west of Namibia, just inland from the Atlantic Ocean and the Skeleton Coast. The cool winds that blow from the Atlantic help to keep the camp cool even in summer. This is one of the most remote camps in Southern Africa. The Kunene River is the only permanent source of water in the whole region and the river creates a lush oasis along it's banks surrounded by rugged mountains and sand dunes. Style Rapids just below camp provide a calming ambiance; guests fall asleep to the sound of rushing water, while by day they explore one of the driest deserts in the world. Serra Cafema gets its Portuguese name from the mountains that dominate the northern skyline, and shares the area with the Himba people, amongst the last true nomads in Africa. Under big, shady Albida trees you will find a small, rustic and peaceful camp with all the comforts of a luxurious safari camp. The variety of activities to explore the breathtaking landscape includes informative nature drives that tread lightly on the fragile habitats and boating on the Kunene River, where crocodiles and waterbirds seem out of place in this moonscape environment. Walking in the remote mountain and river valleys are also a highlight, as is a visit to a Himba settlement, should the nomadic people be in the area. The fairy circle phenomenon is best viewed in the Hartmann's Valley. Rooms The camp has 8 canvas and thatched chalets on decks, each with its own en-suite bathroom. Attention to detail, elevated decks and simple structures of wood, canvas and thatch create a camp that is at one with its surroundings. The dining room, bar and pool look out over the Kunene River. |
